10 June 2024Following Mo Squires’ endometrial cancer diagnosis, she wanted to raise awareness as far afield as possible because for this particular cancer there is no easy test and only one symptom - a pot-menopausal bleed.
We decided to do what we do best and organise a netball festival...!
The aim of the Netball Festival was three-fold. Primarily to raise awareness of women's health conditions, secondly to raise money for three deserving charities and last but not least to enjoy a great day of netball, the sport we all love!
The festival combined multi-generational netball tournaments with information from health professionals who were invited to hand out leaflets and talk to people about their concerns. The focus was on cancers that are more prevalent in women, as well as the menopause and the mental health impacts of these physical changes.
The festival also featured fundraising for the Prospect Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Great Western Hospital, with the initial target of £15,000 comfortably exceeded, resulting in total of £18,000 being raised on the day.
