Performance Development

County U13 Player Development Programme

This is the first entrance into the Performance Pathway and the focus is on individual development. This stage coincides with peak motor learning, therefore athletes are learning how to train and develop the skills of netball. They are also learning the basic technical/tactical skills, and ancillary capacities including:

  • Warm up and cool down
  • Stretching
  • Hydration and nutrition
  • Recovery
  • Relaxation and focusing

Although the focus is on the training and skill development, competition should be used to test and refine skills. The training to competition ratio is 75% to 25%. Athletes should be competing in appropriate club (county and regional leagues) and school competition.

County U15 Player Development Programme

There is one Player Development Programme in every county in the South West. The focus is on working with another player. The emphasis remains on training and skill development with competition being used to test and refine skills.

Athletes should be competing in appropriate club (regional leagues) and school competitions.

Wiltshire Performance Development Programme

Currently our county group consits of 10 athletes with some Yr 9/10 training partners and also some Yr 11 athletes. Occasionally U15 Wiltshire athletes who are part of Team Bath, Swindon and Salisbury PDP join the training sessions.

Several of the Wiltshire athletes have been playing in Team Bath NPL and PDP Programmes this season:

  • Lauren Adams U17 NPL
  • Sophie Vaughan U17 PDP
  • Anna Moore U19 PDP

We're very proud to see players who have been through the County Programme now playing for franchises throughout the country, special mention goes to Thea Rhodes who was selected to captain Wales U19.

We launched the Amesbury Training Centre and have mixed age groups of U13 and U15 players.

The Swindon U13 PDP currently has 14 athletes and our Swindon Development Group has 24 athletes. This group is a stepping stone for athletes who are above Satellite stage but not quite ready for County netball.  This Wiltshire Netball initiative helps to keep the players engaged and working to develop their skills further.
